Ely Hardriders Report

Nine CUCC riders braved the cold, wet and even slightly snowy conditions to compete in the traditional, season opening Ely Hardriders Time Trial.

The cold weather, strong breeze and wet conditions meant that no super quick times would be posted, and many decided that the aero gains of a skinsuit and carbon wheels would be better traded for some warmer clothes and effective braking!

Indeed, for many it was their first ever 25-mile TT, and for others it was a good benchmark to gain early season fitness.  However, a Cambridge clean-sweep of the prizes was always possible, and we ended the day with a solid 1-2-3-4, and 5 of the top 10 positions (despite Seb Dickson’s supposed allegiance on the official results to some club called Thanet RC?) The team prize was also assured, with congratulations going to Felix Barker for the win, with a course record 56.27, followed home by impressive rides from Seb (57.41) and Hal Bradbury (58.27) to round off the podium. Ali Golby claimed the prize for the fastest U23 with a solid 59.17.

In truth, everyone deserves congratulations (and a celebratory Nana Mex!) for braving the conditions and staying upright on a notoriously sketchy course, and we all look set for a promising season and hopefully some fast times and more wins down the line.
