Racing
If you want to race for the University, then you're in luck. The CUCC is active in pretty much all disciplines - road racing, time-trialling, hill climbs, mountain bike racing.
Time-trialling is a full blue sport and mountain biking a half blue sport. If you want to check the qualifying criteria you can do on this section of the website. If you're an established racer and feel like seeing whether you can make some club history, then take a look through the club records below.
Time trialling
CUCC has a strong tradition of time trialling and it is on time trialling that the Full Blue criteria are based. The club records are a testimony to that tradition. Former members like Michael Hutchinson and Emma Pooley have gone on to set national records, compete internationally and win olympic medals.
There is an annual Varsity Match against oxford is in the form of a 25mile TT, one of the BUCS series. For more information about this, see the ‘Results and Events’ tab.
Other Major time trials for the club include the BUCS 10 Mile Time Trial Championships, the BUCS 3-up Team Time Trial Championships and the BUCS Hill Climb Championships. Members also compete in the RTTC National Championships at multiple distances, and the British Cycling Time Trial Championships.
There is a wealth of experience and knowledge available should you wish to get into timetrialling. The two other town clubs in Cambridge (Cambridge CC and Team Cambridge) both run local TTs on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from the spring onwards, and many CUCC riders attend these in preparation for the Varsity Match in May.
Road racing
MTB racing
The two main mountain bike races for CUCC are the Varsity XC (Cross-Country) race, usually in March, and BUCS Downhill (British Universities and Colleges Sport), usually in April.
Despite Cambridge's flat location, CUCC mountain bikers, past and present, have competed successfully in traditional cross-country races (XC), endurance events such as 100 km mountain marathons and 24 hour races as well as downhill competitions.
Details of these races will be sent out on the club's main mailing list closer to the events.
